This year’s Sixth Form College Annual Art Exhibition featured some of our talented art students’ work! They were given a brief for their pieces and worked on them throughout the year whilst completing their studies with us. Harry Collins-Smith, Aiya Hind-Hanjoui and Yenlik Baijanova all had their artworks featured as part of the ‘Living the Dream’ exhibition, which was centred around the next generation of artists and looking at what brings joy to their lives. This could include the people and places around them, as well as events that brought them joy. They were asked to bring an abstract representation to what it is like to ‘Live the Dream’.
Harry Collins-Smith, who studied Textiles with us, says about his design ‘Expression’: ‘This print captures the essence and importance of ‘freedom of expression’. The construction of it was a simplistic layering of lines over an image of my friend using music to express herself. My project had a strong focus on music and its impact on how we express ourselves.
By digitally manipulating the imagery I was able to adjust the colour and saturation allowing me to evoke a particular feeling or mood. Using vibrate and ‘over-saturated’ colours to represent the power of feeling free to express yourself how you want to.’
