Students Transform Age UK Community Centre with Stunning Refurbishment

A team of our talented students has taken on the rewarding challenge of refurbishing the bathrooms at Age UK Darlington’s community centre, breathing new life into the space while supporting the charity’s vital work for local residents.

Students from the Art Foundation, as well as first-year Textiles and Fine Art courses, worked within a tight budget and limited timeframe to create a fresh and modern look for the centre’s tired and dated facilities. Their creative input and dedication have helped enhance the welcoming environment that Age UK provides for the community.

Age UK Darlington offers a wide range of events and activities for people of all ages, and the recent refurbishment of both the bathrooms and the café has further transformed the centre into a vibrant social hub for visitors to enjoy.

The project was made possible through the hard work, professionalism, and enthusiasm of the student team: Frankie, Leo, Molly, Angelica, Ethan, Lucy, Erin, and Mihlali. Special thanks also go to Mihlali and Eleanor from the Year 1 Textiles course for their generous donation of beautiful artworks to adorn the walls.

Rachel Barras, Assistant Head of Art and Design commented: “We are incredibly work they’ve done, as well as their willingness to volunteer their time to complete this project to such a high standard. Opportunities like this allow students to build their professional practice, and we always look for exciting projects in the local area where they can make a real impact.”
