Health and Social Care students were captivated and inspired as they gained first-hand insight into the vital role of Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs). Through engaging demonstrations and hands-on experience with surgical equipment, students explored the complex skills required in this crucial profession.
Reece Farrell, Course Leader for Health and Social Care, shared his thoughts on the session: “The students particularly appreciated understanding how ODPs combine technical expertise with exceptional communication abilities to ensure patient safety throughout the operative journey.”
Izzy Simpson, student commented: “I thought that the ODP experience was really eye opening into what the role of an operating department practitioner was. We got to try some of the techniques that they perform including intubation and other jobs they take part in during surgeries.”
A huge thank you to the ODP team from Darlington Memorial Hospital for their time, expertise, and commitment to inspiring the next generation of healthcare professionals.
