Health and Social Care students recently took part in an immersive experience at the University of Sunderland, giving them a comprehensive introduction to university life and the opportunities available within higher education.
The visit included subject-specific demonstrations, insightful guidance on student finance and the application process, as well as a tour of student accommodation. The students were also given the chance to explore what life is like as a university student and gain valuable information about potential career pathways in the health and social care sector.
Reece Farrell, Course Leader for Health and Social Care, praised the visit, saying: “It was great to see our first-year students really enjoy a taste of university life and experience different health and social care subjects. The whole day was really valuable—not only in helping students focus on their chosen careers, but also in allowing them to explore what university is all about.”
The students were equally enthusiastic about the trip.
Rhianna Spour, a Health and Social Care student, said: “The trip to Sunderland University was beneficial as it allowed me to gain more insight into the course on Paramedic Science that I was interested in, and the different pathways I could take to gain the qualification.”
Kate Solomons, student also shared her experience: “The trip to Sunderland University was amazing. The staff welcomed us warmly and explained everything we needed to know about the university. I even got to spin a prize wheel in the main hall and won a free gym pass! They explained how gym memberships work for students and non-students, which I found impressive. We also visited the John Dawson Sciences Complex where we learned what to expect if we were to pursue a Nursing degree. The experience really motivated us by highlighting the grades needed for different courses.”
The trip offered students not just academic insight but also a sense of excitement and motivation about their futures in the health and social care field.
