Many congratulations to first-year Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College student Ollie Porter who has been selected to represent Great Britain’s U23 Men’s Wheelchair Basketball team at the upcoming World Championships in São Paulo, Brazil, this June.
Ollie, who studies PE, Psychology and Criminology at QE, is one of only 12 athletes across the UK to earn a spot on the squad, following an intense series of training and selection camps held after last year’s European success.
He was part of the GB team that clinched gold at the U23 European Championships in Madrid, a victory that secured their qualification for this year’s prestigious world tournament.
“It’s an incredible honour to wear the GB vest again,” said Ollie. “I’ve been working hard to build on the success in Madrid, and I’m really proud to be part of this team heading to Brazil.”
Ollie has been playing wheelchair basketball for over 12 years and also represents Mohawks Wheelchair Basketball Club in Middlesbrough, where he continues to inspire with his skill and commitment to the sport.
“We’re all incredibly proud of Ollie,” said Laurence Job, Principal. “His determination and achievements are a huge inspiration to our college community.”
The U23 Wheelchair Basketball World Championships will bring together the world’s top young athletes to compete on the global stage.
