Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College proudly opened its doors to residents from local care homes and Darlington for a special afternoon of celebration in honour of VE Day. The college was filled with joy, laughter, and a strong sense of community spirit as guests enjoyed afternoon tea, quizzes, and a classic sing-along.
The event was made extra special thanks to the support of students from QE’s Combined Cadet Force (CCF) and Volunteering Group, who played a vital role in creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all.
Nancy Wall, teacher who organised the event, said: “A great afternoon was had by all. It’s always so lovely to share moments like these with our local community and celebrate the spirit of togetherness.”
Marking occasions such as VE Day is more important than ever. We are privileged to still learn directly from a generation who lived through war—a generation we may not have with us for much longer. These commemorations are not just celebrations; they are reminders. When we forget the past, we risk repeating it. By honouring VE Day, we pay tribute to those who served and ensure future generations understand the value of peace, resilience, and unity.
The college is proud to continue its tradition of community engagement and intergenerational connection, celebrating significant historical moments with warmth and inclusivity.
