It’s a dream come true for talented A Level student Eve Connor from Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College (QE), who is celebrating an incredible achievement after securing a highly sought-after Level 5 Journalism Apprenticeship with the BBC – one of the world’s most creative and technologically advanced media organisations.
19-year-old Eve, a former student of Northfield School and Sports College in Billingham, joined QE after spending a year at another local sixth form college. Not letting her later start at QE hold her back, Eve threw herself into college life and worked with real drive and determination – and now, her hard work has paid off in the best possible way as she takes a major step towards her dream career in journalism.
Eve achieved 2 A* grades in Politics and Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and 2 A grades in English Literature and History (modern).
The BBC’s Journalism Apprenticeship offers a unique opportunity to train with some of the most respected and experienced professionals in the industry. Eve will work alongside BBC News and Sport teams, gaining hands-on experience in creating and delivering high-quality content across TV, online, digital, and audio platforms. The programme also includes involvement in a wide range of newsroom activities, from sourcing and securing contributors to writing briefs, shooting, and editing films.
Speaking about her success, Eve said: “I’ve loved every second of my time at QE. It was a bit daunting starting later than everyone else, but the staff have been absolutely exceptional and have supported me so much. I still can’t quite believe I’ve secured a place with the BBC – it feels surreal! I’d honestly recommend QE to everyone.”
