A determined and dedicated A Level student from Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College (QE), Darlington, is celebrating after securing a place to study Veterinary Medicine at the prestigious Royal Veterinary College – ranked number one in the world for veterinary medicine. Alexandra, a former student of Greenfield Community College, Newton Aycliffe, achieved 2 A grades in Chemistry and Mathematics and a B grade in Biology, earning her place through the highly competitive Sutton Trust programme.
Alexandra explains: “I have always been passionate about animals and knew veterinary medicine was the right path for me. The support and opportunities at QE, especially the enrichment programme and the work experience placements, have been invaluable in helping me prepare for university.”
Throughout her time at QE, Alexandra fully embraced the College’s extensive enrichment activities. She was an active member of the Medics Society, took part in QE DARES, and contributed to the LGBTQ+ group, helping to create a vibrant and inclusive community.
What truly set Alexandra apart was her exceptional commitment to work experience, completing a total of 140 hours split evenly between clinical and non-clinical placements in veterinary practices and on farms. This hands-on experience gave her a deep insight into the profession and helped build her confidence. QE’s Careers Team provided ongoing support, arranging placements and offering guidance throughout her university application journey.
Reflecting on her time at QE, Alexandra says: “QE has been life-changing. I’ve met so many incredible people – the teachers have been so supportive and always lifted me up. I wouldn’t be where I am without them.”
Laurence Job, Principal of QE, adds: “Alexandra has shown remarkable dedication and determination throughout her time here. We are incredibly proud of her success and look forward to seeing her flourish in this exciting next chapter.”
