For Joseph Beard, college was all about choosing subjects he was passionate about and that would provide a range of opportunity.
He is now set to start a History and Theology degree at the University of Birmingham after excelling at QE.
Joseph, 18, secured two A* grades in History and Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), alongside A grades in Sociology and Philosophy, Religion and Ethics.
The former St John’s pupil from Bishop Auckland also made the most of extra-curricular activities at QE, representing the College at the English Schools Chess Championship and enrolling on the Latin enrichment programme.
Reflecting on his time at QE, Joseph said: “I would recommend QE because of the amount of independence it gives students while still providing plenty of support when you need it. The teachers are very knowledgeable and approachable, and there are lots of opportunities to pursue your interests both within and beyond your subjects through enrichment opportunities.
“I’ve particularly enjoyed being able to study subjects that genuinely interested me in much greater depth. The support from my teachers throughout my time at QE has been excellent, especially in the lead-up to exams and when applying to university.”
Joseph is looking forward to developing his skills and knowledge at university, but is keeping his options open regarding future career plans.
He added: “I am keeping an open mind about my long-term career plans. I am confident that the skills I have learnt at QE will be invaluable for applying to jobs in the future.”
