Our second year A-Level English Literature students recently embarked on their annual trip to London, immersing themselves in the world of Shakespearean, theatre, literature, art and culture.
The trip began with a visit to the British Library, where students got the opportunity to take part in an engaging Windrush Voices workshop. Alongside exploring the stories and experiences celebrated within the exhibition, they also had the opportunity to see a replica of the American Declaration of Independence. They rounded up their day with an unforgettable evening in the West End, watching the award-winning musical Hamilton.
Day two offered even more opportunities for cultural exploration. Students visited St Paul’s Cathedral, admired the impressive exhibitions at the Tate Modern, and enjoyed time discovering some of London’s most iconic landmarks and vibrant cultural attractions.
The highlight of the final day was a spectacular performance of Chelsea Walker’s Much Ado About Nothing at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, allowing students to experience one of Shakespeare’s most celebrated comedies in the iconic, world-famous venue that continues to celebrate his legacy.
The trip provided invaluable opportunities for students to deepen their understanding of Shakespeare’s plays and broader literary works, supporting their A Level studies and enhancing their exploration of Othello ahead of their examinations. Beyond the classroom, the experience broadened their cultural awareness, enriched their learning and creating lasting memories.
It was a fantastic few days filled with discovery, inspiration and enjoyment, bringing literature to life in the heart of one of the world’s most celebrated cultural capitals.
