Exciting times ahead for QE netball stars

Two talented students are looking forward to a promising season after being selected to represent prestigious netball clubs.

Mia Holloway, a first-year student at Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College, is set to represent Leeds Rhinos Under 19s.

Whereas fellow first-year student Jorge Lumley will play for Nottingham Forest Under 17s.

The pair are also part of QE Netball and are proud to represent the College.

Former Longfield pupil Mia, who is studying English Language, Psychology and Biology, plays either Centre or Wing Attack and will join the North East Leeds Rhinos.

She said: “I have been playing netball for about six years and really enjoy it.

“I’m really looking forward to playing for Leeds Rhinos and just want to go as far as I can with netball and see where it takes me.

“I enjoy playing for the QE netball team too and ultimately I would like a career aligned to the sports industry, so this is really helpful and gives me an understanding of what is involved in the different pathways.

Jorge, a former Richmond pupil, is studying Business, PE and Psychology at QE and has been playing netball for as long as she can remember.

She said: “I like that it is something fun and something that I seem to be quite good at – playing netball can be an escape from the academic side of things.

“QE offers a nice balance and it is great that you can get involved in teams and activities like this alongside your course. In the future I would like to either work in business or in something to do with netball – so it is great that I am able to pursue both interests at QE and keep my options open.

“I am really proud to have been selected for Nottingham Forest and am looking forward to the opportunities and the season ahead.”

Reflecting on the duo’s success, Kellie Pomeroy, Sports Development Co-ordinator at QE, said: “I am delighted for Mia and Jorge – they have both worked incredibly hard during their short time at QE and have been a credit to both the College and the netball team.

“They are both really talented players and really committed to the sport and we are all excited to see what they go on to achieve.” Netball is just one of the many enrichment activities that you can get involved with alongside your studies at QE.
