ACADEMIC SUCCESS FOR BUDDING LAWYER

‘QE HAS SUCH A SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT WHICH ALLOWED ME TO THRIVE’

A determined and dedicated Member of Youth Parliament (MYP) is poised to make his mark in the legal world after having secured stunning results in his A Levels. Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College (QE) student, Connor Fox has achieved 3 A* grades in History, Law and Politics and will study Law at York University to study Law, having never considered the course until he attended the College’s Bridging experience. ‘The Law department at QE have been incredibly inspiring and the course has captivated me from the moment I sampled it during Bridging’, Connor explains. ‘I knew straight away that I wanted to pursue a career in this area, and my other two subjects have complemented it enormously’.

18-year-old Connor, from Leeming Bar, has been a MYP since February 2022 and has worked tirelessly on his key pledges, including combatting food poverty and ensuring schools are fully inclusive for students with disabilities. His efforts have seen him debate in the House of Commons and he has also received recognition from his local MP, Rishi Sunak, who commended Connor on his commitment to being an effective Member of Youth Parliament. Connor adds: ‘Being a MYP has been such a humbling experience and I feel very fortunate that my idea to tackle food poverty was backed overwhelmingly by my fellow MYPs.’

Alongside his A Levels, Connor, a former student of Bedale High School, has relished throwing himself into the opportunities presented to him by QE. He has explored London with Law, visiting prominent buildings linked to the capital’s world-famous legal system, and travelled to Washington D.C. with Politics, obtaining a valuable insight into the political workings of one of the world’s most powerful countries. Looking back on his extra-curricular activities, Connor says: ‘Being able to attend the trips thoroughly enhanced my time at the College and developed both my knowledge and confidence’.

Diagnosed with autism at a young age, Connor has refused to let his condition define him and has flourished during his time at QE. ‘The college has such a supportive environment which allowed me to thrive. The Learning Support team have been amazing and have shown me that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.’ Vicky Wilkinson, QE’s SENDCO, concludes: ‘Connor is an inspirational student who has shown exceptional commitment and determination in everything he does, both in and out of College. Connor’s academic aptitude, resilience and hard work have paved the way to what will be an inevitably successful career in Law and Politics and we wish him every success with this.’
