Jake Murray, artistic director of Elysium Theatre Company, spoke to our first year A Level Lit students today about the challenges and delights of directing Twelfth Night. With over thirty years’ experience he was able to shed light on some of the more complex aspects of the play and allowed students to gain a deeper insight into the performances of key scenes. Alfie Jones said that he ‘had learned a lot and made loads of good AO5 notes’ and Mary Guirguis asked probing questions about where Jake thought the key moments of gender ambiguity were explored. We look forward to welcoming back Jake in the future to deliver lectures on A Doll’s House and to work on GCSE Shakespearean texts with our academy partner schools.
