Moyin Akindunbi has always used her voice to make a difference and is now set to embark on an exciting new chapter – studying Politics and International Relations at Nottingham Trent University.
The 18-year-old achieved B grades in Business and Economics, alongside a C in Sociology in her studies, completing a remarkable two years at Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College.
During her time at QE, Moyin served as Students’ Union President in her second year – representing the views and opinions of more than 2,000 students. She also acted as a Student Ambassador and supported prominent College activities, such as Culture Week, Enrolment and Open Events.
In addition, using the relationships and connections she formed while serving as Students’ Union President, Moyin established the Youth Empowerment Network, an initiative that aims to bridge the gap between young people in Darlington and local businesses by creating meaningful work experience opportunities. As a result, Moyin is now working in partnership with Darlington Borough Council and the Darlington Youth Partnership to help create more opportunities for young people across the Borough.
Reflecting on her time at QE, Moyin, who previously attended St Aidan’s School in Darlington where she was a Student Leader, said: “I am passionate about helping to inspire young people and acting as a positive role model. QE was the perfect environment to enable me to do this.
“I was provided with strong support to express myself and put myself out there – allowing me to get involved in high profile events and eventually serving as Students’ Union President which was a fantastic experience. QE also provided me with strong careers advice and support – helping me to find a university course which I absolutely love.
“I am really looking forward to studying Politics and International Relations at Nottingham Trent University. The course aligns with my values and ambitions, and will allow me to build on all the things I achieved during my time at QE. I would certainly recommend QE to other students. The College has a strong sense of community and is all about bringing people together. I made some fantastic friends and amazing memories at QE which I will cherish forever.”
