Former QE Student, Ellie Rutterford, returned QE today to speak with our Maths students about her experience as an apprentice.
Following her time at QE, Ellie obtained an apprenticeship with Clive Owen LLP where she completed her AAT Level 2 in Accounting, developing a solid foundation in finance administration and core accounting skills and has since continued learn from hands-on experience alongside off-the-job training. Ellie, now an Audit and Accounts Associate at Clive Owen LLP, was accompanied by her colleague, Carline Pigg, a Recruitment and Training Advisor, highlighted the benefits and importance of apprenticeships for those looking to get into a career in accountancy. Ellie answered a range of questions from students, including how she found her apprenticeship, why she chose to apply for an apprenticeship, her plans for the future and also offered advice about how to become an apprentice.
Ellie, who studied A Level Maths, Economics and Business Studies at QE, said: “I really wouldn’t have come this far without the support of my teachers at QE. It was actually my tutor that found this apprenticeship and then supported me throughout my application – they even organised some mock interviews. I haven’t looked back!”
Today’s session, delivered by Ellie and Caroline, is part of a series of activities, talks and workshops organised by the College to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week – an independent nationwide initiative which runs annually, celebrating the achievements of apprentices and the positive impact they make to communities, businesses, and the wider economy.
