QE’s Biology and Science students have spent some valuable time with former student Andrew Bennie. Andrew gave a talk explaining how his career path eventually led him to manage his own blood science lab at one of the country’s largest specialist cancer hospitals, The Christie in Manchester. Although originally wishing to follow a career in Biomedical Sciences, he started working in a Blood Science lab at Manchester Royal Infirmary and by chance, worked in a pre-analytical lab at the hospital, eventually moving across to The Christie Hospital. He commented that the skills he learnt whilst a student at QE in his Science career, are the essential skills he still uses on a daily basis, from biology-related lab techniques to digital and communication skills.
Andrew studied Biology, Chemistry and Physics at QE and then completed a degree in Human Biology and Chemistry at Keele University.
