Health and Social Care Students Support Local Foodbank in Community Effort

Health and Social Care students have shown their dedication to community service by volunteering at Kings Church Foodbank. The students played a key role in supporting the foodbank’s operations, which included preparing food parcels, sorting and organizing stock, and welcoming members of the public.

This hands-on experience offered the students a valuable insight into the challenges faced by individuals experiencing food insecurity. Through their involvement, they gained a deeper understanding of how personal circumstances can impact diet, nutrition, and overall well-being.

Reece Farrell, Course Leader of Health and Social Care, commented: “We are incredibly grateful to Kings Church Foodbank for offering our students this meaningful opportunity. Their professionalism, compassion, and dedication were evident throughout the day, and they left with a greater appreciation for the realities many people face.”

The students shared their reflections on the day’s experience:

Evie Fear, student shared: “The trip was really inspirational and eye-opening. I really enjoyed helping people who were facing challenges how everyone was catered for. It was a very insightful day, and I would love to help again.”

Izzy Simpson, another student, added: “My experience at the foodbank was insightful, as it allowed me to appreciate the challenges faced by individuals. I really enjoyed making the food baskets and giving them to the people utilizing the food bank.”

Kings Church Foodbank also expressed their gratitude for the students’ support, saying: “It was so lovely having you all with us on Friday. The students certainly made our day a whole lot easier, given the task that was in front of us! We really could not have managed without everyone’s support; they were all truly wonderful. Please thank everyone for all the hard work they put in.”

The initiative reinforced the importance of social care in supporting vulnerable communities and demonstrated the students’ ongoing commitment to making a positive impact.
