Meet Lauren, a vibrant talent who transformed her passion for storytelling into a dynamic career. After earning a BA (Hons) in Journalism at Northumbria University in Newcastle, where she graduated with a First, she jumped headfirst into the world of radio. For three exhilarating years, she reported the news for popular stations like Capital, Heart, and Smooth Radio North East, along with Metro and TFM Radio, sharpening her journalistic instincts.

But deep down, Lauren harboured a dream that went beyond the airwaves: to become a published author. In a bold move, she returned to university to pursue a part-time MA in Creative Writing from 2019 to 2021. Even while juggling her studies, she continued to freelance, showcasing her versatility in the fast-paced world of journalism. When the pandemic struck and work opportunities dwindled, she pivoted yet again, taking a position with HMRC to keep her ambitions alive.

Lauren graduated with Distinction—essentially the MA equivalent of a First—in 2021, but she didn’t stop there. She transitioned to a Project Coordinator role at a digital agency, but the call to create her own path was irresistible. Leaving the corporate world behind, she launched her own business, specializing in content writing and social media management.

Her commitment to writing flourished as she also took on the role of Production Editor for Mslexia, a prestigious women’s writing magazine, overseeing the production of the magazine four times a year. Despite the demanding schedule, she kept the fire burning, working tirelessly on her debut novel.

In an exhilarating twist of fate, she completed her manuscript in early 2023, and on the very day her contract with Mslexia ended, she received an offer from a publisher! Lauren’s journey from journalist to novelist is a testament to her unwavering determination and creative spirit, proving that with passion and perseverance, dreams can become reality. Keep an eye on this rising star—her literary debut is sure to make waves!

Reflecting on her time at QE, Lauren said: “QE was life changing for me, and I still tell people about it! My teachers were so incredibly passionate about their subjects that it made me passionate again, too, after the pressure of GCSEs. They were all so encouraging, and they really made me feel like my writing could, one day, get me where I wanted to be!”

Laurens debut novel, The Goldens, will be on the shelves in June 2025.
