Popular Music Concert Wows Students from Wyvern Academy

The first year BTEC Popular Music students put on a concert for 45 music pupils from Wyvern Academy recently. The four bands each performed a set of songs from the 2000s, including music originally recorded by the likes of Kings of Leon, Rihanna and Franz Ferdinand.

The students involved enjoyed the experience. Guitarist, Tomas Jackson said: “It feels really encouraging to be able to share what we’ve learnt with others in such a fun and positive way. This was the first time I’ve ever had the opportunity to do so, and it has given me the confidence to pursue a musical career of my own.

This has definitely been my highlight of the course so far.” Pianist, Ruby Noyes also commented: “The gig on Friday really helped me experience the reality of playing in front of a live audience, particularly concerning how to overcome mistakes together as a group.”

Teacher, Steve McGarvie said: “It was great for the students to have the opportunity to perform in front of an audience, with the musicians applying many skills developed over the course so far in a practical setting. All the bands displayed a high level of professionalism and sounded great! We thank Wyvern’s Music department for bringing their musicians into QE and being such a great audience.”
