Sally Grey, who left QE 7 years ago to study English Lit at Newcastle Uni has been interviewed today by Julie Ashmore about her debut novel Fertile Ground. Sally started the novel as part of her dissertation for her MA in creative writing during the Covid lockdown. She said she didn’t intend to write a dystopian story but was influenced by breaking global news stories and that, eventually, her characters just took her to ‘some dark places.’ Around 50 students attended her session and had the opportunity to ask her about the process of writing, how to get published and what to do when you experience writer’s block.
Sally said, ‘it was amazing to come back to QE and have the opportunity to talk about my book! It’s lovely to hear that so many students are looking to become published authors and I can’t wait to read their work someday!’
