QE DARES Celebrates Chinese New Year with Food, Fortunes, and Festivities

The College’s Diversity, Anti-Racism, and Equality Society (QE DARES) marked Chinese New Year with a vibrant celebration of culture, traditions, and community spirit.

Lily Huang, a dedicated member of QE DARES, played a key role in sharing the festivities by handing out red envelopes containing messages of good luck, a cherished tradition symbolising prosperity and happiness. Students also had the opportunity to enjoy a selection of Chinese snacks, embracing the flavours of the festival. Fortune cookies were distributed, adding an element of fun and surprise, while others took part in the celebrations by donning lion head costumes, a gesture that reflects the spirit of traditional Chinese New Year performances.

The event was a fantastic way for students to learn about and appreciate the rich cultural heritage of their peers. QE DARES remains committed to celebrating diversity throughout the year and will continue to highlight the backgrounds and traditions of its students.

Looking ahead, the group is preparing for Culture Week on 17th February, a special event that will showcase the heritage of QE students through food, music, and activities. The celebration promises to be another exciting opportunity for the college community to come together and embrace different cultures.
