In a dramatic afternoon of football, Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College emerged as double champions, securing both the NECL Premier Division Cup and the NECL League Cup in a nail-biting showdown against Stockton Sixth Form College.
After trailing 3-1 at half-time, QE staged an incredible comeback to level the match, taking the game to penalties where they kept their cool to seal a 7-6 victory. The final whistle marked an unforgettable achievement for the team, with Lucas Petch named Player of the Match for his outstanding performance.

Lee Hutton, QE Football Coach, reflected on the tense match: “We found ourselves down within the first 20 minutes but got a goal back before half time. We changed the formation and it began to pay dividends. Some good play brought it back to 3-3, but we conceded with just 8 minutes to go. With literally the last kick of the game, we equalised to make it 4-4. I’m really proud of all the squad and what they brought to the game in the second half. What a way to end the season!”
Paul Carroll, Teacher of Sport and Leisure and Football Coach, added: “What a game! So proud of the boys and what they have achieved. Can’t wait to see what next season holds.”
It has been an exceptional season for the QE squad, showcasing resilience, teamwork, and talent. The college community is already looking forward to what next year may bring.
