QE student Turns Pages into Opportunities with Penguin Books

Meet Lailah Mudd, a current QE second year studying English Literature, Tudor History and Business Technical. Beyond the classroom, Lailah has carved out an impressive niche as a successful book influencer, who’s reputation and passion in the online book reading community has caught the eye of major book publishing company Penguin Books.

Her journey has been nothing short of inspiring. Lailah has collaborated with Penguin Books on exciting projects: receiving exclusive PR boxes of new releases; proofreading manuscripts; beta reading; and even expanding her skill set by assisting editorial teams on upcoming titles. She also partners with independent authors, helping them with proof reading and promoting their work, something which Lailah is proud to say she is a part of.

Reflecting on her journey: Lailah says:

“I really enjoy working with small authors to help them gain the recognition that they deserve and may not receive due to a lack of funding or capability. I started this back in April and had gotten into it after reading about different marketing roles that were available in the publishing industry. My time at QE is helping me with this as my business course is aiding knowledge needed within marketing and analytics.”

Recently, Lailah attended Ross Montgomery’s event for his book ‘Murder at a worlds end in London’, gaining invaluable work experience and a behind the scenes look at the publishing world.

Lailah’s next chapter? In summer 2026, Lailah will embark on a two-week internship with Penguin Books’ Marketing and PR team in London. This incredible opportunity will immerse her in the fast-paced world of publishing, give her hands on experience, and an experience she’ll never forget.

Lailah’s passion and dedication to literature and marketing make her a shining example of what QE students can achieve. We couldn’t be prouder of her hard work and determination. Her journey proves that with ambition and creativity, the possibilities are endless. She is a true testament of the QE student spirit.
