Sport and Travel students had an unforgettable Icelandic adventure with a whirlwind of exploration and discovery, from stunning natural landscapes to thrilling experiences that exceeded all expectations.
Following an early flight to Keflavík, and the group wasted no time diving straight into Iceland’s majestic beauty. Upon arrival, they ventured to the Reykjanes Peninsula, where they had the chance to walk across the Bridge Between Continents, a symbolic pathway between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates. The day continued with a visit to the Gunnuhver Hot Springs, where the students marveled at the bubbling geothermal activity a true example of Mother Nature’s raw power. The adventure continued with a scenic walk along the Selfoss Town Trail, taking in the stunning surroundings.
The group took an epic journey of waterfalls, glaciers, and black sand beaches. The students first visited Urriðafoss, Iceland’s most powerful waterfall, where they were left in awe of the roaring waters and breathtaking views. Next up was Skógafoss, one of Iceland’s most iconic waterfalls. The group ventured up close and got drenched in the refreshing spray an unforgettable experience! The day continued with a visit to Reynisfjara Beach, famous for its black sand and towering basalt columns, before heading to Sólheimajökull Glacier for an up-close look at one of Iceland’s impressive glaciers. A visit to Seljalandsfoss followed, where the students had the unique opportunity to walk behind the waterfall, offering a one-of-a-kind perspective on the thundering cascade of water. The day ended with a stop at Gljúfrabúi, a hidden waterfall tucked inside a canyon, yet another magical secret that Iceland revealed.
Reflecting on the experience, Ruben Putt, one of the students on the trip, said: “Iceland was beyond my expectations—it was beautiful, awe-inspiring, and just fantastic!”
Fríðheimar Greenhouse, was a quick stop where students indulged in the freshest tomatoes straight from the farm, setting the bar for what was to come. The day continued with awe-inspiring stops at Geysir and Gullfoss, where the group witnessed the famous geyser erupting, followed by the thundering waters of Gullfoss, leaving everyone amazed by the sheer power of nature. Later, they explored Thingvellir National Park, where students casually strolled between tectonic plates, an experience that made them feel like they were walking on the edge of the world.
The group then headed to Efsti-Dalur Dairy, where they enjoyed delicious ice cream straight from the farm and it was so good that they joked they’d happily fly back just for it! Dinner featured a quirky twist—square burgers, because in Iceland, even the food keeps you on your toes!
The final day was packed with Reykjavik adventures to round out the trip. Students started with a relaxing swim in a geothermal pool, basking in the hot water while the chilly Icelandic air surrounded them—true to Icelandic style! The students then explored Skólavörðustígur (Rainbow Street), enjoying Reykjavik’s lively shopping district, before treating themselves to another round of ice cream—because, why not indulge in a frozen treat in the land of ice and snow? Next, they climbed to the top of Hallgrímskirkja Church, taking in panoramic views of Reykjavik’s stunning skyline and surrounding landscapes. They also posed by the iconic Sun Voyager Viking ship sculpture.
Iceland evenings with QE students have been just as adventurous as the days! First, it was the Iceland Bush Tucker Trial with QE’s own Ant & Dec—Nancy and Marie! Students braved fermented shark, smoked lamb, and more Icelandic delicacies, creating moments of dramatic gag reflexes and unforgettable laughter. Next, Bingo with Marie sparkled with top-to-toe glam and plenty of laughs. Ian’s Iceland Quiz! With tricky questions, surprising answers resulted in fierce competition, students went head-to-head in a quiz that wrapped up another legendary Iceland day!
As the adventure came to a close, the students’ enthusiasm and spirit were undeniable. They embraced every experience, and their energy lit up every stop, making the journey an unforgettable one.
