Students Accelerate into Engineering with Greenpower Racing Initiative

Students involved in the GreenPower Racing Enrichment Group have embarked on an ambitious project to design, build, and race an electric car, thanks to a collaboration with the Darlington Rotary Club and support from Cummins. This initiative is part of the Greenpower Racing to inspire young people to excel in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) by engaging them in hands-on engineering challenges.

The QE team has been diligently constructing their vehicle and designing a unique team kit. They are preparing for upcoming testing sessions at a local circuit, where they will fine-tune their car’s performance. This endeavour not only provides practical engineering experience but also fosters essential skills such as teamwork, communication, and project management.

Participation in Greenpower projects offers students numerous benefits, including:

  • Hands-on experience in engineering and technology: Students apply classroom knowledge to real-world challenges, enhancing their understanding of technical concepts.
  • Development of teamwork and project management skills: Working collaboratively on complex tasks teaches students how to manage projects effectively and communicate within a team.
  • Exposure to sustainable technologies and environmental awareness: Engaging with electric vehicle technology promotes environmental responsibility and interest in sustainable solutions.

The support from Cummins, a global leader in power technology, has been instrumental in providing technical expertise and mentorship to the students. Their involvement underscores a commitment to nurturing future engineers and promoting STEM education within the community

This project exemplifies how industry and educational institutions can collaborate to provide enriching experiences that prepare students for future careers in engineering and technology. The QE team’s journey with Greenpower Racing not only equips them with valuable skills but also ignites a passion for innovation and sustainability.
