Staff and students at QE have welcomed a detective to the College to speak about her role and offer advice to those aspiring to work in the police force. DC Hannah from South Yorkshire Police began her talk by introducing students to her journey into the police, discussing how she progressed from a role in communications to a detective through South York Police’s fast track post degree scheme. She then provided an insight into the daily life of a detective, including its challenges and the responsibilities undertaken, before advising students on the skills needed to be successful in the police and the wide range of roles available. Following the presentation, students had the opportunity to ask Hannah questions and were able to start considering their own future careers and routes into the police force.
Following the presentation, student Lucy Gaskill commented: ‘I found the talk extremely helpful. It was useful to learn about the different areas you can work in as a detective and the fast track post degree programmes available. It was also good to hear about Hannah’s day-to-day life and her personal story of how she secured her role. I feel that I have been given more guidance on how to get myself from where I am now to where I want to be’. Giles Bayliss, Course Leader for A Level Law, adds: ‘It was a really worthwhile talk. Hannah delivered a highly informative presentation on the attributes needed for a career in policing and the fast track scheme which leads to a graduate becoming a detective. She gave helpful advice and a detailed insight into the life of a detective and police officer’.
