The recent Film and Media trip to Paris was an overwhelming success, providing students with an enriching cultural and educational experience that they will cherish for years to come. Packed with a variety of activities, the four-day trip allowed students to explore major landmarks, delve into the world of French cinema, and enjoy the magic of Disneyland.
Among the highlights of the trip were visits to iconic locations such as the Sacré-Cœur, Notre Dame, the Eiffel Tower, and Montparnasse Tower. These experiences provided students with a deeper understanding of Paris’s rich history and architecture.
In addition to sightseeing, the trip included film and media-based activities aimed at enhancing students’ understanding of the industries that produce culturally significant films and media products. Students toured the stunning art deco Cinema Rex, where countless glamorous film premieres have taken place, and enjoyed a guided walking tour of Montmartre, a neighbourhood renowned for its connection to French cinema history. A visit to the Cinemathèque Française Museum immersed students in the fascinating world of film history, offering a hands-on experience with one of the world’s largest collections of film memorabilia.
The cherry on top was a day trip to Disneyland, where staff and students alike had their inner child awoken! With endless smiles and laughter, it was a truly unforgettable day. As one student remarked, “This was the best day of my life,” and for teachers, moments like these are what make the hard work so worthwhile.
Evie Jamison, a student who participated in the trip, shared her thoughts: “The Paris trip was something I couldn’t have even imagined myself doing before coming to QE. It was an opportunity I’d just never had before. So, it was something I’m really, really grateful for and proud to have participated in. Some of the highlights were, of course, Disneyland, the Rex Cinema Tour, and Montparnasse Tower. For me, it was also really rewarding and beneficial to be immersed in the French language and culture – I even started thinking in French! I’ve learned a lot not just about the history of film and its importance in France, but also crucial life skills, like traveling independently and managing on my own. The memories are something I will cherish forever.”
The trip not only broadened students’ cultural horizons but also highlighted the importance of experiential learning outside the classroom. For the teachers and staff involved, the experience was a reminder of how powerful and impactful such trips can be in shaping students’ personal and academic growth.
We look forward to future adventures and continuing to provide our students with opportunities that inspire and excite!
