Students from Creative Media Practice, Media Studies and Film Studies students had a talk from Clive Tonge, who is a film and television lecturer at University of Cumbria. Clive gave a great insight into students’ stunning film making, and university life in the beautiful Lake District.
Clive is also a practicing film director. His most recent film was a horror movie, MARA and was released theatrically worldwide in 2019 and is now on Netflix USA, Amazon Prime and Sky movies, starring Olga Kurylenko (Quantum of Solace, Oblivion), Javier Botet (It, Mama, Last Voyage of the Demeter), and Craig Conway (Dog Soldiers, The Descent). He has directed several award-winning short films before making the leap into mainstream features with his debut project, elevated supernatural thriller MARA. His first short (Emily and the Baba Yaga) won a Royal Television Society award and he was recognised by the British film council as one of the ‘10 directors to watch’ nationally in 2010.
Clive will be back visiting us and working with students in the summer term, for a film making workshop – watch this space!
