Stuie Ellerton and Gemma McCready from SimFly, a Virtual Global Flight Experience based in Darlington, spoke to 70 Travel and Tourism students about the exciting opportunities available in the travel industry, and in particular the aviation sector.
Stuie outlined the current position of the aviation industry highlighting all of the many and varied jobs available to students and why this is the ideal time to join it. The students also learned about what skills and qualities employers want and what the students can do to put themselves in the best position. Gemma outlined her experience flying long haul as Cabin Crew, outlining the good and not so good aspects of the role. She also spoke to students about how best to enter the industry for her role.
Overall, the talk was a fantastic experience for students, being very informative and providing inspiration for future careers. Tyler Walmsley, who also studies Business and Photography, said “I have always wanted to be in the aviation industry and today gave me lots of ideas about roles I can do”
Nancy Wall, course leader for Travel and Tourism commented “it’s great to have people from the travel industry in the College. The links the department has with employers enhances the course and provides students with fantastic first-hand information, we always love working with them.”
