Our Volunteering Group recently organised a giant coffee morning in support of Macmillan Cancer Support, combining delicious treats with a great cause. The event, filled with home-baked cakes and a spirit of generosity, was a huge success, as students came together to raise vital funds for those affected by cancer.
The coffee morning was part of Macmillan’s national fundraising campaign, where communities across the country host events to raise money for cancer support services. Students showed tremendous dedication, with many volunteering their time to bake and sell cakes, bringing both staff and students together for a morning of delicious treats and meaningful conversations. Every slice of cake sold contributed directly to supporting Macmillan’s work in providing care for cancer patients and their families.
Nancy Wall, the Student Union Coordinator, praised the students’ efforts, saying, “Our students are fantastic. They worked so hard to make this event a success, and it’s wonderful to see them come together for such an important cause. Not only did they raise funds, but they also raised awareness about the valuable work Macmillan does.”
Emily Ford second year student said “it’s great something as simple as a coffee morning knowing that helps someone else somewhere.”
The coffee morning demonstrated the power of community and generosity at QE, with students using their skills and creativity to make a real difference. The funds raised will help Macmillan continue its vital work, and the Volunteering Group is already planning future fundraising activities to keep the positive momentum going.
